Project: Development spring shoe

The disadvantage of the KangooJump shoe is that it is rather massive and has a limited force rebound due to material usage. This shortcoming is the main reason for Tramp-it to start a development project for an improved spring shoe. The product passed different development phases. A full composite U-shape spring has been prototyped. The result is a product with better force rebound, a more elegant looking shoe and over 40% weight reduction.

The big challenge of every composite product is the final consumer cost. Modesi investigated (and simulated) different production techniques in order to get the best prize/quality ratio. Due to the fact that market development has not been started yet, the product quantity is unknown. Therefore Modesi advised to start the production with thermoplastic pre-pregs. A switch to a pulltrusion process can be made in due time.

Composite spring shoe

In this project for the new company Tramp-it BV, Modesi developed a new type of running shoe based on force rebound principle. The KangooJump spring shoe was the start point of this development. With the spring shoe it is possibble to jump (make large steps) while the forces on the knee and ankle joints are reduced by 80 percent. Besides fun aspects the shoe has also medical benefits.
