Numerical Combustion Cycle

Prior to getting the engine operational a numerical simulation of the combustion cycle is programmed with Matlab. This simulation is used to determine optimal scavenging and trapping efficiency of the combustion chamber. Secondly the simulations give an indication of power and torque of the engine. The matlab simulation is also used to determine ignition timing, inlet- and outlet port opening timings and to explore influences of variable compression. Generated data is used as input for 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis on the engine and to create first setup parameters for a motor management system.
