Dynamic in-cylinder flow simulations

The CFD software package OpenFOAM has been used to do these complex in-cylinder simulations. Since OpenFOAM is an open-source software package it is possible to make adjustments to the software. Since the architecture of the JaqEngine is completely different from the Otto-engine, modifications to the software were needed. In OpenFOAM it is possible to do dynamic engine simulations. Topological changes to the mesh, such as layer addition/removal and sliding interfaces are implemented in OpenFOAM.

Port configuration

The CFD analyses are done to obtain results for the in-cylinder flow field. Different inclination angles are investigated for the ports of the JaqEngine. These analyses have been done to setup a port geometry for the intake and exhaust in order to have the best possible scavenging within the cylinder.
