Project: Designing body shell racecar

Formula Student is the largest and most successful design competition in the world for students. Over 400 university teams worldwide participate in this competition. By designing, building, testing, racing and marketing their very own Formula-style racing car the teams compete at one, or more events which are held throughout the world.
The essence of the competition is the education of the participants through the broad hands-on experience they gain while working in this high-tech and challenging project. The competition prepares students for their future careers in the engineering and business world.
Not only engineering skills, but also management, presentation and people skills are trained; the project comprehends everything the students need in their future careers.

University Racing Eindhoven (URE)

Since 2005 Modesi is a sponsor and development partner for the exterior of the race-car for the URE-team. The design and styling of the car has been done in close cooperation with the team. In order for the team to stand out of the other university teams a specific styling direction has been chosen. Keywords for this direction are: Hot-rod; Retro.
Through the years the styling has evolved with the design of the underlying construction. A close eye was held on respecting the chosen design language.

Modesi was responsible for the design of the outer body, but also for the graphic design of the car. Together with the URE team Modesi combined aerodynamics and design in to one package. The car was recently presented at the High Tech Automotive Campus. Within 6 weeks URE will be off to its first race in Silverstone!

URE CFD ANALYSIS

Modesi has done a CFD analysis on the new URE05 body. The new design that Modesi has developed was subjected to a CFD analysis in order to determine its drag and lift characteristics. Using different tools modesi can use the outcoming information to design a successor.
