BSBN Bobsled

Project: Aerodynamic analysis

Modesi has been asked to analyse the current Bobsled. The client wanted to know the aerodynamic effects on the bobsled during the ride. To establish the right results out of the aerodynamic analysis Modesi made a 3D CAD model of the current bobsled. In cooperation with the client Modesi tested several models. After this process design recommendations will be issued to be used for designing a new bobsled model.

The images below show aerodynamic results of the bobsled in CAD. This is input to see where and how the body of the bobsled disturbs airflow. With small adjustments to the body, drag can be minimized which results in an optimized aerodynamic airflow around the bobsled.

Based on 3D-scan generated data, a CAD model is developed which in turn is used for aerodynamic analysis. Results of these CFD calculations will be supplemented with wind-tunnel generated test results. Combining and evaluating these tests and data provides sufficient knowledge for our engineers to contribute to a newly designed, improved bobsled for our client.
